Best Oregon Forest Venues
Loloma Lodge
Located in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon, this venue offers an elevated camp experience for couples and their guests. Many couples choose to rent the cabins and campsites, including adorable mini A-frames, to enjoy a full weekend celebration. The property is filled with towering trees and vibrant greenery, making it a dream setting for anyone who loves the outdoors.
The space can be dressed up for a formal celebration or kept simple so guests can fully enjoy its rustic charm.
Ceremonies often take place with the McKenzie River as a backdrop in an amphitheater-style setting. For those seeking an indoor option, the historic lodge features a large stone fireplace that creates a warm and intimate atmosphere. Covered reception areas are also available in case of unpredictable weather. This venue works perfectly for both smaller, intimate gatherings and larger celebrations, offering flexibility and charm in every corner.
Photography Considerations
- The natural light at this venue is exceptional, with tree coverage providing soft, flattering light throughout the day.
- For weddings in June or July, consider starting the ceremony around 4:30 or 5:00 PM. These longer days allow for beautiful light during pre-ceremony portraits and the ceremony itself.
- For off-season weddings, from October through May, plan for an indoor backup option. Fall weddings here are especially stunning, but a flexible approach ensures everything goes smoothly.

Camp Colton
About an hour from Portland, Camp Colton offers a modern yet rustic forest vibe. For ceremonies, there is a historic church on site, as well as an “in the forest” option. There is also a gathering hall and a patio space for outdoor receptions, surrounded by tall pine trees. It is a perfect backdrop for your outdoor forest wedding. The property is enormous and gives you plenty of options for stunning photos.
As an added bonus, there are accommodations and options to add lodging for your guests, making it feel more like a weekend celebration. You can choose from cabins, yurts, cottages, RV sites, and even a tiny home. There are also dedicated getting ready rooms on site.
Photography Considerations
- As mentioned, this property is HUGE. Make sure to have enough time explore. There is a hidden waterfall onsite!
- The site has canoes available to use in their pond.
Best Columbia River Gorge Venue
The Griffin House
Perched dramatically on a private cliffside in Hood River, Oregon, The Griffin House offers truly unmatched scenic views of the Columbia River Gorge. It will completely take your breath away.
At the center of the venue is a 120-year-old home where couples typically get ready before the ceremony. The house has several floors and thoughtfully designed rooms, making it easy for everyone to spread out during the morning. It’s also a great space for indoor photos before heading outside for the rest of the day.
The property features multiple manicured lawn areas, which allows the day to flow naturally from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception. While the views of the Columbia River Gorge are the main highlight, the trees and stone terraces around the property add variety and create several beautiful spots for photos.
One of the standout features is the clear-roof reception tent, which allows guests to dine and celebrate outdoors while still staying comfortable. The sides can be enclosed if the wind picks up, which is helpful since the Gorge can be breezy. The surrounding terraces and landscaped grounds also provide plenty of options for portraits throughout the property.
Photography Considerations
- During the summer months, plan for a later ceremony start time, ideally around 4:00–5:00 PM, to take advantage of the best light.
- The view is stunning all day, but golden hour is where the magic truly happens. Be sure to include time in your timeline for sunset photos.
- The Gorge is known for its wind, which can be a photographer’s friend. Wind adds movement, drama, and life to images, creating cinematic moments that feel straight out of a magazine.
Columbia Gorge Hotel
Also located in Hood River, Oregon, The Columbia Gorge Hotel not only offers a second to none view of the Gorge, but also features a creek and a stunning 208 foot waterfall right on site.
A registered National Historic Site that can accommodate up to 42 guests, this hotel gives your attendees a relaxing experience with all the amenities. The grounds are absolutely stunning.
Ceremony Location Options at the hotel
- The Point Lawn can hold weddings with up to 200 guests and sits with the Columbia River Gorge as the backdrop.
- The Front Lawn features the creek on a manicured lawn with the hotel as the backdrop.
- The West Lawn can accommodate weddings with up to 175 seated guests and offers water views with a boujee patio vibe.
Photography Considerations
- The hotel sits on seven acres, so you may want to consider adding a second photographer to your day.
- Sunset photos are a must at this venue, especially if you end up with a bright, sunny day, so be sure to carve out some time.
Best Oregon Mountain Venues
Silcox Hut
For couples seeking an adventurous mountaintop and more intimate wedding (40 guests max), look no further than Silcox Hut. Operated through Timberline Lodge, this rustic and historic stone hut sits high on Mount Hood and is accessible most months of the year by snowcat, provided and operated by Timberline staff.
The interior is truly one of a kind, built primarily of stone and timber, with ceremonies typically taking place in front of a grand floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. The atmosphere is warm and inviting — a cozy alpine retreat with a winter wonderland just outside the windows or sweeping valley views during the summer months. After exiting the snowcat, guests are greeted with panoramic views near the very top of the mountain. The journey itself becomes part of the celebration, creating a memorable and immersive experience from the very beginning.
Photography Considerations
- Be prepared for unpredictable weather from fall through spring. Anything from bluebird skies to snowstorms is possible.
- If the conditions keep you indoors, the hut’s interior is stunning, with dramatic stonework, and beautiful natural light.
- Because of the logisitics of the snowcat, make sure to get a solid photography timeline established for your day.
Mount Hood Ski Bowl
Mt. Hood Skibowl is a spectacular mountain-top venue with sweeping views and a dramatic outdoor setting for weddings. Available only during the summer months, ceremonies here feature panoramic vistas of the valley, surrounding forests, and Mount Hood itself, creating a truly memorable backdrop for couples planning a nature-inspired outdoor wedding in Oregon.
The cozy warming hut adjacent to the ceremony site provides a rustic cabin vibe, ideal for getting ready. Ski Bowl staff can even open the lift to the top bowl for pre-ceremony photos, ensuring you capture the best mountain views. Guests can ride the ski lift to the ceremony or take a shuttle, then enjoy the famous Alpine Slides back down, creating a fun and memorable wedding experience.
For receptions, a large tented area on the main grounds offers flexibility and shelter, keeping everyone comfortable regardless of the weather. It’s easy to see why Ski Bowl earns the title of “Best Wedding Experience.”
Photography Considerations
- A second photographer is highly recommended for this venue. Ski Bowl’s mountain-top layout and logistics make it difficult for a single photographer to cover the entire day.
- Having a larger team ensures the wedding flows smoothly and that you have a more relaxed timeline.
Best Oregon Lake Venue
Bridal Veil Lakes
Nestled along the scenic highway in the Columbia River Gorge, just 30 minutes from Portland, Bridal Veil Lakes is truly one of the best nature-inspired wedding venues in Oregon. The venue perfectly combines a stunning lake at its center with a surrounding lush forest, giving couples and guests an immersive outdoor experience. You can walk the full loop around the lake, and guests are treated to a walkway lined with tall birch trees.
One of my favorite features as a wedding photographer is the complimentary canoes available for couples and guests. They add an interactive element to the day and create unique photo opportunities that you just don’t get at most venues.
Most ceremonies are held with the lake as a breathtaking backdrop, while cocktail hour often takes place near the venue entrance at the picnic shelter. Adjacent to this is a tented outdoor reception space, providing flexibility in case of unexpected weather.
Photography Considerations
- Canoe sessions are highly recommended during your couples portraits. Late afternoon is ideal, especially on sunny days when the light is softer and more flattering.
- Bridal Veil Lakes does not offer an official getting-ready space. Some couples use the on-site bathrooms, but I highly recommend booking an Airbnb or hotel nearby if you want this part of your day documented professionally.
Best Central Oregon Venues
Smith Rock State Park
Located just 30 minutes from Bend, Oregon, Smith Rock State Park is an iconic high desert destination that combines out of this world scenery with a sense of adventure, making it one of the most unique scenic outdoor wedding locations in Oregon. Featuring towering cliffs, the winding Crooked River, and a variety of hiking trails provide a dramatic, scenic backdrop that is absolutely beautiful for wedding photography.
Despite its ruggedness, many of the park’s most scenic spots are easily accessible from parking areas, allowing guests to comfortably enjoy the views. Couples can exchange vows in the small amphitheater, which seats about 50, or opt for an intimate elopement with just the two of you. After the ceremony, Central Oregon offers plenty of nearby venues for receptions or celebratory dinners. Remember that a permit is required, so contact the park office well in advance to secure your date.
Photography Considerations
- The light at sunset is magical, casting a warm, golden glow over the cliffs and river. Definitely take advantage of this time for couple’s portraits. It might mean getting creative with your timeline.
- Plan your ceremony closer to golden hour to capture the most flattering, cinematic photos.
- Work with your photographer to make the most of the park’s unique outdoor landscape, from dramatic cliffs to serene river views.
Ranch at the Canyons
With its unique blend of Tuscany meets the high desert, this venue delivers absolutely jaw-dropping views of Smith Rock State Park—as noted above, arguably the best nature-inspired spot in Oregon for an intimate outdoor wedding or elopement. Here, you truly get the best of both worlds: luxurious amenities, high-end lodging options for you and a select number of guests, and stunning Tuscan-style architecture at the base of Smith Rock. Located in Terrebonne, about 40 minutes north of Bend, you might find yourself forgetting that you’re actually in the Pacific Northwest.
Ranch at the Canyons offers two spaces that can be used separately or together. The Tuscan Stables are the venue’s largest-capacity space (up to 250 guests) and feature an open ranch lawn that hosts both ceremonies and receptions, with Smith Rock as the dramatic backdrop. The space also includes Stable Lake, complete with a dock where guests can gather—and which doubles as an incredible photo spot.
The Old Winery Clubhouse, designed as a Tuscan-style villa and best suited for 100 guests or fewer, overlooks both the ranch property and Smith Rock State Park. Couples can choose between indoor or outdoor celebrations (with slightly lower capacity indoors), and an east-facing patio can host dinner and reception events while guests take in the sweeping views. Inside, there are also optional overnight accommodations for about 8–12 people, typically reserved for the couple and close family.
Photography Considerations
- Like my suggestions for Smith Rock State Park, early and mid-day sun can be harsh and direct. Make sure to plan some time to accommodate sunset portraits.
